Cleanup Queen to Retire Her Gardening Gloves
by Marian Dodge

For the past 18 years, LFIA board member and chair of the Beautification Committee, Margret Lohfeld has tirelessly led the cleanup charge in our community. She is a human dynamo with more energy than the Energizer Bunny. In addition to leading cleanup crews half a dozen times a year, she goes out with one or two people weekly on “trashy dates” to do spot cleanups throughout the neighborhood. She has zealously protected the deodar canopy on Los Feliz Blvd. and has been responsible for planting new trees. Her citizenship is unparalleled.

Beautification Chair Margret Lohfeld shovels trash out of the traffic triangle at Los Feliz Blvd. and Riverside Drive.

She is also renowned for the elegant brunches featuring her celebrated stuffed eggs and world-class cheesecake that she serves the cleanup crew after their hard work. To students at Marshall High School who have helped her on the cleanups, she is affectionately known as “Tia.”

The people you notice in orange vests with brooms, trash bags, and paint brushes around the neighborhood are part of Margret’s crew. More than a dozen volunteers turn out for the Los Feliz Improvement Association’s Beautification Committee cleanup. They fan out throughout the neighborhood picking up trash, sweeping curbs, removing illegal signs, and painting out graffiti. It’s hot, sweaty work but extremely rewarding when you compare the way the street looked before and after you were there.

Margret has officially retired as chair of the Beautification Committee. However she has placed the leadership of the committee in the competent gardening gloves of LFIA board member Tom Ford. Her leadership and drive will be greatly missed, but we know she will continue to serve as an inspiration for all of us to keep our community cleaner.

Thank you, Margret!
